God of All Comfort

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. - 2 Corinthians 1:3-6

What a magnificent message in two ways. First we are told that our Lord is the "God of all comfort." Whenever we are in distress, we can rest on Him.

Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him... -Psalms 37:7

I think back on many times I have been worried or panicked over something or other, and have failed to rest on God. Because of this, I worry needlessly for hours and even days...

Fortunately, God will always ( even if others forsake us) be there for us.... ready to help us when we come to Him...

When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up. -Psalms 27:10

The verse also tells us to comfort one another as we are comforted by God.

Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous. -1 Peter 3:8

Even if we are feeling fine and worry-free, we must take the time to console, comfort, and have compassion upon others.

But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? -1 John 3: 17

  • Excellent post Zach! Psalm 37:7 has been such a blessing to my life! Waiting on the Lord is something that is very hard for me to do in certain areas of my life, but, as Isaiah 40:31 says, "But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagle, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." Thankyou for the encouragement!

  • Amen!
Isn't it awesome to know that no matter what, God is still sovereign?
